Building a Pyramid of Fitness
To construct the ultimate level of fitness one must start with the base. The foundation upon which everything above it will be supported. Within the methodology of CrossFit, that base
is ones nutrition. It is also the one thing that your gym, coach, and workout partners can't help you with. This one is all on you. What you buy, what you put allow in your body is 100% up to you. I've been doing a lot of reading lately on the food industry, the problems with the Western diets, the recommendations of the medical professionals, and, the one thing I've concluded so far is that nobody has a perfect plan. The reason you see a new diet trend every year is because the one from the previous year didn't work long term. Long term is the key. Nobody is looking to only lose weight for 4 months, and then gain it all back. Calorie deficit is also not the way to monitor your food intake whether you're trying to lose weight, or maintain. Your weight is determined by your bodies natural and instinctive "set weight". Unfortunately for some, they've let their bodies "weight thermostat" gradually rise over the course of their lifetime. Once that has happened it is difficult to get it readjusted. But, it can be done. I saw a post on instagram a couple days back which stated, "If it wasn't food 100 years ago, it isn't food now". That is one way to get that "weight thermostat" reset. Eat REAL food. You could read the labels to see what is in the product before you buy it. There's one small problem with that method though. Real food isn't packaged. You should get where this is going, so go out and start working on your foundation.
