A new challenge has been thrown out by David Goggins and I'm in! This will be a tremendous test of will, desire, and fitness, and I can't wait to take it on.
As you can see in the pic, the challenge is to run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. Yes, even through the middle of the night. Yes, every 4 hours. Yes, for forty eight hours! This will be a total of 48 miles worth of running over the course of 48 hours if you haven't already done the math. A daunting task for most "fit" people.
I can admit that taking on this in it's entirety is something I really want to go after, but I know my limitations at this time. I will however, take it on in a scaled capacity this year by doing 2x4x48. This will give me 24 total miles in 48 hours. There is another aspect of this event that I will modify as well. For the sake of my wife's concern for safety, I will complete the nighttime efforts in my garage gym on the Concept 2 rower. By calculation, 2 miles is the equivalent to 4,000m, so I will row that distance during the 8pm, 12am, & 4am segments of the event.
With those modifications will it be the same? No. With those modifications will I be able to take on the challenge in a way that will put me outside of my comfort zone? Yes. And that is what it's all about. Doing something hard, doing something that will take tremendous effort, beyond the physical, but also in your head. Sleep will be lacking, everything will be hurting, and it will be time to go again. I can't wait!
Check out David's instagram for details, maybe you can find a way to make the modifications to push yourself into a version you can handle, or maybe you've got desire to attempt it Rx. Just don't be afraid to try. That's what life's all about.
