Training to be better at life

The ONLY affiliate gym in the Temescal Valley.

Nutrition needs to be at the foundation of any exercise program (see pyramid pic). Our bodies use the foods we consume as fuel to function. The better quality you put in, the better output you will receive. We don't expect, or want our new members to do a complete 180* on their diet when they join us because we know that won't last. What we do is encourage gradual changes to your everyday intake that will lead you to sustainable changes for the duration of your life.

There are two major factors regarding nutrition that matter more than anything else. WHAT and WHEN. What to eat is actually pretty simple. Eat real food. Real food is defined as something that was grown from the Earth or something that had a face. If you have to read the label, it's not a real food, but rather a food product. Now there are some natural foods that will come in packages. Nuts, seeds, eggs, milk, butter... with those be sure to read the label. What do you look for on the label you may ask? The ingredients, not the nutritional values. The "nutritional values" can be enhanced with food additives in a factory so seeing that a product has a certain percentage of the "recommended daily allowance" is really irrelevant to whether or not it is a quality product. Further, recommended by who and for who? The ingredients are going to tell you what you're eating.
When to eat is a whole other concept that has been ruined by the "authorities". You may think that 3 meals a day is the appropriate way to eat? Maybe you've heard of the concept of 5-6 small meals a day? First thing in the morning? Nothing after 8:00pm? There's countless theories out there, but how about this? Eat only when you're hungry? The human body was designed to eat really, maybe once a day. Think about the ancient ancestors of the human race. They had to hunt and gather for their food. This wasn't something they did 3 times a day. But, they survived, and not only did they survive, they had enough strength in their bodies to go out into the wilderness and do it again the next day, the next day, and the next. The western civilization has evolved over the last century to believe that what is actually abundance, is the necessary. We take in entirely too much food for what we need to live, thus, we've become an obese population. Nearly 50% of Americans are obese because we eat too much too often.
We want you to be successful. You can't out work a bad diet so we're going to give you the proper guidance and help to get you feeding your body properly. The first sentence of "World Class Fitness in 100 Words" is "Eat meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar." The reason that's the first line is because that's the most important.
